Beverly Knight
Director Alcaston Gallery for 20 years, Beverly Knight is known for her extensive fieldwork, actively supporting the development and empowerment of artists, their careers, families and community based advocacy bodies.
Alcaston Gallery is a contemporary Australian art gallery dedicated to the promotion of Indigenous art works by living artists through an extensive exhibition program and series of open education forums, providing the opportunity for ongoing support and financial independence for more than 200 artists.
Beverly Knight is committed to exhibiting high quality and cutting edge contemporary art sourced from legitimate community based organisations. She encourages audiences to view Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art within the context of contemporary Australian Art, and the global contemporary art market, without compromising the complex cultural constraints often attached to exhibiting and documenting work by senior tribal elders.
Beverly is the Immediate past President of the National not-for-profit Australian Commercial Galleries Association (ACGA). The ACGA represents more than 50 galleries in Australia whose core business is the development and commercial benefit of artists.
In 2010 Beverly became a Director of the Tiwi Bombers Football Club located in Northern Territory. This position is in addition to her role as a Director of the Essendon Football Club which she has held since 1993.
She is keen to see this Code benefit the Indigenous artists.
