Nanda Yamatji

I am Possum Rose, a Nanda Yamatji woman, mother of three daughters. We live on Whadjuk Country.

Art has been part of me for as long as I can remember. Painting became my passion and purpose later in life. It connects me to my Elders, grounds my soul, and keeps me close to Country.

My practice is built on pattern and patience. I work with layers of colour, sometimes with watered down acrylics and sometimes on solid backgrounds, always finishing with my signature fine dot work. Each dot is placed with care, letting the designs of Country emerge.
My inspiration comes from nature. From being out in it, from the trees, the water, and the patterns all around me. The ideas never stop because Country is always speaking.

Through my painting I carry story forward. I paint for my family, for the Nanda women before me, and for the Country that holds us. It is my way of staying connected, healing, and sharing culture.
