Melbourne Art Foundation

Established in 2003, Melbourne Art Foundation (MAF) is a nationally significant not-for-profit organisation with a proven track record in delivering high-impact cultural events that drive visitation, stimulate local economies, and enhance city branding. MAF focuses on audience and market development, creating platforms that support Australia’s living artists while delivering measurable outcomes for partners and host cities.
MAF owns and operates Melbourne Art Fair, Australasia’s leading forum for contemporary art and ideas. The 2025 edition (22–25 February) attracted over 17,000 visitors, generated $14.8 million in artwork sales, and contributed $24.8 million in economic impact to the state of Victoria—demonstrating the powerful intersection between cultural programming and tourism outcomes.
MAF’s expertise in large-scale event strategy and international fair delivery has been sought by state governments and major institutions to support destination-led cultural development. This includes partnering with the National Gallery of Victoria to launch the Melbourne Design Fair and with Creative Victoria to deliver the Victorian First Peoples Art and Design Fair—events that are embedded within their host city’s identity and purpose-built to attract high-value cultural tourists and grow creative industries.
